DCC got any evidence to back up their claims?
This has a very American feel. Don’t fix it, hide it.
I’m sort of ok with this; a lot of these are run by religious groups, lack dignity and privacy, and cause huge ammounts of rubbish in the vicinity in which they operate. Never mind that a lot of the staff are unvetted. The homeless are a vulnerable population, they deserve access to safe, regulated support.
The big caveat to all that criticism is that the ban should run alongside the launch of government operated alternatives.
Maybe we could make it so they don’t need to operate at all, then they won’t have to.
Treat the cause not the symptoms.
I want a ban on the well paid under worked clowns 🤡 who are robbing a living in the DCC . They have Dublin ruined with there bad decisions for decades now.
How many different charities or groups are providing soup kitchens or other services to the homeless communities? Is there any coordination between the various groups or are they all running independently?
To give them their credit I believe most of those involved have the best of intentions and they are filling a void left by government services.
But I think we need to become careful with them. We’ve seen too many cases recently of well meaning organisations being badly led by their founders or managers. Just because they have the best of intentions should not preclude them from proper oversight.

The state wants the homeless to go away somewhere less inconvenient, and die.
I assume if people didn’t need to use them they would not use them.
If there is concern around drug dealing then legalize drugs. Prohibition never works.
The regular NGO’s don’t want competition for funding or kudos from the public and the government want to sweep it under the carpet by not having people being fed on Grafton street, this really is a case of vested interests defending their own
I’ve a better idea.
Fire half of DCC and force the rest of them to actually work for a living.
Then use the money saved to fund soup kitchens.
I work in homeless services.
I’m not sure what exactly the by laws they are introducing say but my understanding is it’s around food safety. There is also issues around vetting of staff involved and them dealing with vulnerable people.
There is no shortage of free or low cost food centres in Dublin.
The Capuchin Day Centre, Merchants Quay, the Lighthouse on Pearse St, Focus Coffee Shop, Little Flower on Meath Street, St Brigids on Holles Row, St Joseph’s Cumberland Street North, St Agatha’s Portland Row, Mendicity on Island St.
Dublin Simon soup run also have vetted staff, make food in their base on Capel and deliver to homeless around the city.
I think that homeless people deserve minimum food safety standards as much as the rest of us.
If some soup kitchens can’t provide that then they should be shut down.
