TLDR: Her admission was rejected because “Turkey doesn’t allow Sweden in NATO”.

      >Before the incident, Fatma Zehra S. revealed that her internship application was accepted by another professor in the same department at Stockholm University.

One professor doesn’t follow the rules and goes rogue being an ass, not the university.

Like literally, I as a Turkish student, have been rejected by Ca Foscari university in Venice despite of being supported plus accepted by the department. Lots of students are like me. My university hosts countless exchange students from Italy and according to the international exchange office they loved it so much that they want to stay for another semester. It is fucked up as hell, they are using the inflation to live like kings and queens in a country that they describe as Islamic terrorist. In Italy all though, I couldn’t even find an accommodation, I was even rejected by a Spanish guy who told me “ that I’m the problem and will definitely create problems in the future. “ I think all Europeans living in Turkey should go back to their countries

Good for her for sticking to her principles and not caving in.

Average western mentality. Your country is run by authocract and so you must pay personally the price for it. Never understood the sense of it.

I don’t actually see a problem with this. The personal situations of people are always used as political ammunition to pressure governments into doing the right thing. While it sucks to be on the losing end of the situation, I think the professor’s logic is pretty sound. Maybe Turks really need to feel the pressure against them to turn the tides against the current regime. This is the kind of stuff that moves the needle. Instead, Sweden caves and essentially allows the long term ruin in order to avoid the short term ill appearances.

And before you’re like, “but sweden joined NATO anyway…” That is true. But what if they rejected Hungarians because of the Orban administration….probably not a bad idea. It’s also acceptable to reject Russians for the same reasons.

This is yet another example of why we shouldn’t mix politics with normal people. She could have made a great contribution to Sweden. And Erdogan isn’t that bad, there have been many good developments recently in Turkey like the new Istanbul airport and metro lines. Although inflation is bad and traffic is chaos, my taxi driver agreed on that 😀
