      Someone cut corners when building it. Lunacy for a building to collapse under snow

      I appreciate that there was much heavier snow than is normally experienced in Ireland, but surely the building ought to be strong enough to withstand that.

      Um…a cubic metre of fresh snow weighs like 50kg. If that little extra weight spread across the entire area of the roof managed to make it collapse, it was clearly compromised already. I’d call it lucky that this happened now when no one was actually in the building, all in all.

      Apropos of nothing, when I was living on the continent (NW) I found out that they build their pitched roofs very steep so that you don’t get large accumulations of snow that could collapse a roof, and they’ve been doing it for centuries.

      Wall collapse! It looks like it’s built from cavity blocks just like the wall that fell & killed a worker in an agricultural store/shop (I think) a few years ago.

      Very lucky nobody was hurt since the Complex normally opens at 0600 but they decided to open later today due to the weather.
