Yeah I mean obviously access is going to be a significant aspect to anything like this.
Alcohol still the absolute top dog gateway drug however. By a long, long way.
They should be using alcohol & nicotine, the two legal drugs, as control groups for this kind of study. Otherwise the study just gives the impression that there’s something particularly nefarious about cannabis in peer groups.
But then it might not fit their agenda if the outcome of the study was ‘Cannabis use X times *less* likely than alcohol to be consumed by Irish teens whose friends consume the same drug’
Shame they can’t get it from safe and traceable sources.
Alcohol is nearly impossible to get when you’re underage because it’s so regulated and the penalties for supplying a minor are so steep, makes sense they’d move onto cannabis instead.

Just another argument in favour of regulating cannabis and offering social clubs like in Spain or Germany. People are going to smoke regardless, might as well make sure that the money they spend goes towards public services and not some dealer’s mortgage and that proper health messaging is put in place.
