I wonder how intentional this loophole was and which political parties these families support.

Wouldn’t expect anything less from these class of people.

Maybe we should have a nationwide ad campaign urging people to report those engaging in such activities?

My train of thought went “oh that was nice of them….*reads article*….oh it was their own family”

Shows I have too much faith in people

    4. I remember seeing this change to tax law being discussed quite openly. It’s not my area of expertise, but I think it’s a bit rich to call it a “loophole” when it was pointed out by financial advisors that this was a big change in policy, and the government still went ahead with passing the bill.

“Loophole” that benefits politicians and their mates, how shocking.

Goes to show the power of headlines, that everyone immediately assumes this was some kind of dodgy scheme benefitting politicians and that tens of millions of euro in brown envelopes have changed hands.

What they did was perfectly legal, and perfectly ethical.

A flaw in tax law allowed companies to legally make tax-free pension contributions.

Private company owners realised, “Oh, I can put some money away for myself and my family’s future and not have to pay tax on it”.

So they did. Out of 125 such transfers, 80 of these transfers went to the business owner themselves, 15 to their spouses, and the rest to their children or parents.

All perfectly legal and above board. These would have been smaller companies in private ownership, because in a large company with multiple owners, or a publically-traded company, you wouldn’t really be able to swing this.

Anyone here who says they wouldn’t do the exact same thing given the opportunity, is a liar.
