      > The EU also wants guarantees that Armenia won’t produce its own ‘Orbans.’ Can we provide such guarantees? No—Georgia couldn’t, even when it was a stronghold of anti-Russian sentiment in the region. The EU doesn’t need members like that.”

Hard disagree. Georgia and Armenia are not comparable in this context – Georgia turned west due to the oligarchy there choosing to go with the west – That is not the case with Armenia, in fact Armenia’s case is fundamentally and qualitative different, the change was grassroots and carried out by the people, including the core of the new government being made up of ordinary people. It’s quite extraordinary no decent analysis exists on these issues when such comparisons are made by Armenian analysts, let alone foreign ones.

The question is whether Armenia can continue its *civil* course without oligarchs, specially old regime oligarchs hijacking the country in the future.

    2. I’m not sure if any of this is entirely true – maybe to some extent – but here’s my two cents: if the EU doesn’t enlarge or expand, it will become completely irrelevant in the next 10 years, especially with all these geopolitical changes.
