Questa competizione mi è venuta in mente casualmente. Qualcuno ha qualche storia/ricordo a riguardo o conosce qualcuno che ha preso parte/ha vinto? Da ragazzino pensavo che fosse molto glamour.

Candidates were judged on the basis of “cookery, nurturing and basic household management skills.”

A series of regional heats produced six finalists. The main task in the final was cooking a meal for four within a two-hour period. The host would then interview the contestants, with personality, appearance, sense of humour, interests and civic spirit all taken into account by the judges. Contestants would also list achievements, such as charity work.

I saw over Christmas the documentary on this. Well worth seeing if it’s showing in a place near you.

The mother of a guy in my class in school won it in South Dublin. Big deal at the time. Regina Brennan from Ballybrack.

    4. I find it notable that this is seen as anachronistic in a way the Rose of Tralee isn’t whereas they are both the same sort of thing in my mind.

    5. Given the rise of competitive shows with ordinary people. Fittest family, Bake off  the woodworking one (whatever it’s called). I wouldn’t be surprised to see this make a comeback in some form. Obviously in a less sextist and condescending form than the original.

    6. I shit you not, we had a VHS of me when I was 3, doing 3 year old things around the house. Loved the video and couldn’t wait to show my kids but unfortunately it was lost. When we found it again, someone had taped over it with Housewife of the year 1994.

There’s a Bridget and Eamon (fuck ye, I think it’s funny!) episode based around it and the whole concept was so deranged I assumed it was made up by the show until afterwards.

      Hold on.

Did she deliberately dress the color of a Calor gas cylinder.
