So, Ukraine couldn’t historically join NATO because everyone thought it might provoke Russia. And then Russia attacked anyway and now NATO can’t respond. Aside from providing weapons to Ukraine (the net effect of which is still dead Russians no matter who fires them) NATO has seemed somewhat powerless.
I’m no expert on Article 5, but I wouldn’t imagine defensive forces inside Ukraine would be an issue if, for example, they were tasked with supervising the intact Ukrainian borders. That would at least allow Ukrainian troops to focus on front line.
When I hear Zelensky say he’s had 1m ammunition rounds from NATO, but Russia received 3.7m rounds from North Korea, I can’t help feeling it’s time for a different approach.

the “west” has no obligation to anything for ukraine ( and i highly doubt western countries will send their soldiers to die/get injuired in ukraine ) , ukraine luckly has been a tool to wear down the russian army to a great degree to the benefit of the “west”
