“Drinks companies will still be able to advertise their non-alcoholic beverages on TV and radio during daytime hours, a clear loophole, which health experts says needs to be addressed.”
So basically nothing will change as companies are already just sticking 0.0 on all their ads

I don’t get why TV is restricted to late night, yet for radio it’s restricted to the middle of the day?

>The watershed ban ensures a daytime broadcasting ban on alcohol advertising, with no advertisements for alcohol products on television from 3am to 9pm
So… when people are asleep?
Edit : yep, I’m an idiot who read that wrong.

Would much prefer a 24 HR gambling advert ban.

The fact that alcohol and gambling companies are allowed advertise at all shows the insane power of vested interests in our politics

Do gambling next. Also, I get ‘black stuff’ ads on here during the day, can we get rid of those too

Enforce the drinking age……..similar to the US everyone has to provide a legal ID.

Do children even listen to radio or watch (live) TV nowadays? Probably not. They have streaming and YouTube.
Unless this is applied to social media advertising, it’s pointless.

This will do f all to address anything. More virtue signalling

Why is there a government levy on alcohol free drinks like Guinness 0.0 if the same alcohol free drink is allowed in sports advertising on playing pitches. E.g. Six Nations

I’m all for advertising bans on alcohol (and gambling). But this absolutely reeks of the same bullshit the tobacco companies pulled when they campaigned in favour of advertising bans. Once cigarettes could no longer be advertised, no new entrants to the market could really gain market share.
The past decade the industry have been shitting their pants over craft breweries. Forcing pubs to occupy every tape with Diageo/Heineken products. Creating new brands like Rockshore, Islands Edge, and licencing foreign labels.
They’ve all gone and made their own 0.0% brands specifically and spent the last few years leaning into promotions on them ahead of a ban just to circumvent them.
