      * Putin only understands military power.
      * Trump only understands economic power.

EU needs to stand united against bullies, no matter where they come from. That’s how we protect the citizens of EU.

    2. I mean. Tariffs on Denmark is the same at tariffs on the EU as a whole. He can’t put a tariff on just Denmark.

I wish the EU would….the problem is they always want to have a backdoor open

      >If Trump sanctions Denmark, EU should sanction USA

As clumsy as I think the EU is, this is not a question of if, but rather of how will it sanction America. Trump knows this, so he will most likely do nothing.

There’s a history for that. China sanctioned one of the Baltic countries because of Taiwan and received retaliation from the EU on top. That is literally the point of the EU. Alone we are small and weak, together we are a fucking superpower (wannabe)

That said, even with sanctions I think Denmark will remain in the bed with America

    5. The EU should sign trade agreements with South/Central American, African and Asian countries that still haven’t been coopted by the US or China

European Union is becoming the last lighthouse of freedom in the world.

Donny is shaping the battlefield for negotiations (in a very rude way indeed). He needs strategic access to greenland to be ready when the north western passage is free of ice and the run for the arctic resources starts and for rocket defence. I dont think it has anything to do with “keeping europe weak”

Probable outcome: Greenland still will not be able to afford independence and will remain with denmark. and the US will be able to build more military bases, projecting power in the arctic.

You get a sanction, you get a sanction, you get a sa… SANCTIONS FOR EVERYONE!!

    9. tremblt_ on

We absolutely should if this happens. However, I am still getting the impression that Trump is talking about Greenland just to distract about the fact that he already has betrayed his voters and that he has nothing to offer them.

Groceries won’t get cheaper, his cabinet is a joke even for MAGA standards, he wants to cut social security, he won’t lower gas prices and most importantly: He is PRO IMMIGRATION (see H-1B visa). Trump is in desperate need for a distraction and Greenland seems to work.

Once he is in office, he will face other problems and who knows what will happen but Greenland won’t be a concern anymore.

But didn’t he threaten to put 25% tariffs on the whole EU anyway?
So the EU will put Tariffs on US products as well, as they did last time.
That will hurt our economy because the US is a big market.

But the US will suffer a lot more because Trump wants to put Tariffs on basically everyone.
If he really goes through with it, it’s gonna be dark times for the average people in the US.

    11. Tactical_Laser_Bream on

He’s telling everyone to look _over there_ with this rubbish. He’s either hiding something closer to home or simply drumming up hype before he gets started for four years. Don’t engage.

    12. neuroticmuffins on

Tariffs on Denmark would mean their precious LEGO, Insulin and Wegovy would increase in price. The Cheeto Benito hasn’t thought this through.

    13. They should already have been sanctioned like 20 years ago with the illegal invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq, yet here we are.

    14. adamandsteveandeve on

Where are you going to buy the LNG from?

Or is it going to be like Ukraine, where you help Ukraine and say things about Russia, but also insist that the taps to Russian gas stay on?

    15. Famoustractordriver on

I think it’s past the time when the EU needs to have a standing army.

The fact that as a head of state of a NATO country can make open statements like these* when they literally threaten the territory of a fellow member state is mindboggling and does not bode well for the alliance. I know a certain cretin to the east that must be absolutely giddy now with this bullshit.

      * I don’t think Trump would ever follow up on these, to me it seems like a distraction tactic for the fact that more and more of his voters have started to see through his bullshit and criticise him.

    16. Large-Assignment9320 on

There have been discussions to outright ban certain US products which are highly profitable (medical, aerospace etc) and have EU alternatives if the US wants a trade war.

    17. Open-Satisfaction891 on

Denmark’s/EU’s response to him needs to be a dismissive jerk-off motion. Anything more, telling him that this is an outrage or that you can’t just annex another country’s sovereign territory or that he’s weakening the West’s strategic alliances, just encourages him to get louder and more insistent that he can do what he wants, which continues to churn the story in the press and gives Putin a semi-chub.

Seriously, just ignore him. Maybe have some quiet meetings with other allies on how to respond if he really does something stupid, but ignore him. He’ll get bored and turn to nuking the moon and claim that he was never interested in Greenland and loves Danishes, especially the cheese ones. (Danishes being a name Americans have for sweet filled pastries).

    18. activedusk on

I propose going after Google, Tesla, Starlink, Apple, Amazon, AMD, nvidia, Microsoft and all other major tech companies with big operations in Europe. The Chinese made huge amounts of money just banning many of those and building local alternatives.

    19. BlizzWizzzz on

Maybe it’s wrong but I’m just pissed off.

If Trump is gonna act like this towards the EU, fine, we should implement tariffs back. And dont’t care about the USA. EU needs to become independent from this ‘democracy’ we call the USA.
