Worked in the nightclub trade for 6 years pre-pandemic. It was always a uphill battle to do anything, and years of false promises like introducing a ‘Night Mayor’ in Dublin to support all night activates such as night transport. Not surprised to see it’s still a dying industry

Just 4 nightclubs in Galway county? That can’t be right???

    3. Where is the nightclub in Wexford? I thought the only one left was The Stores and thats gone

Kilkenny can’t be right – surely Langtons is a nightclub?

Nightclubs trending downwards. Social media, Gen Z drinking less and Covid the driving factors. Festivals are going from strength to strength though.

Younger people just want ketamine and cocaine. Not interested in boozing.

The demise in night club and pub industry correlates pretty strongly with the rise in drug taking.

Something needs to be said about the quality of nightclubs here too. 80+ but many of them are absolutely woeful. In so much of the country, if you want techno you need to go to Dublin or abroad.

Ireland, and Dublin in particular, has the potential to be a world-leading entertainment destination but so much is holding it back. NIMBYism and greed being two that stick out straight away.

The rave needs to come back in a huge way.

No comment on night club’s but the map showing Kilkenny as a coastal county is misleading

Did they ever sort out the licensing?

Having to close at what, 2am? That made nightclubs here a joke. The nightclubs over in the UK were running until 4 or 6am by default 25 years ago. And that’s not counting the unlicensed clubs that opened around 4am and just served water, soft drinks, ice pops, lollipops and chewing gum.

Nightclubs in Clare are one of the layers of Dante’s inferno

Is the government still extending nightclub opening hours??

Nightclubs causes their own death. Masters in taking the piss.

Charging ppl 10-15 ‘entry fee’, plus a favour to store your coat. To pay extortionate prices for a beer that increase as the night goes on.

      Versus you’re average decent latebar

I think I’ve been to one of the two nightclubs in Clare…never again.

It’s not higher because it’s literally not worth the hassle to operate a night club compared to a late bar. A late bar can sell alcohol until 02:00, and the close up at 02:30. A night club licence allows to serve until 02:30 and stay open until 03:00. You can’t turn a bar into a night club, there’s different requirements like fire safety, security and other stuff. You can get a Special Exemption Order for your bar to operate until almost the same time as a night club, so what’s the point of going through all the extra hoops?

The last time I regularly went to clubs was back in like, 2010. But that was mainly down to pints being a fiver. I’m in my 30’s and I’ve got a proper job now, but there’s no way I could afford to still do that.

I remember back in the early 90s there were at least 13 nightclubs in Galway city alone.

Don’t tell me The Palace counts as a nightclub and where is the second one in Meath?
