Ho sentito parlare molto bene di DeepL, in particolare con l’inglese al finlandese // dal finlandese all’inglese. Qual è la tua esperienza con esso? Posso fidarmi di lui con messaggi brevi e informali per la vita quotidiana?

It’s better but not perfect, so you can’t trust it.
DeepL is better than google translate sure and most of the times it performs quite ok. It should work just fine in informal conversations.
Have to say, there can be some translation errors every now and then.
In my experience it’s good for any texts that are like 2-3+ sentences. Ofc read it fix some minir stuff up etc. For shorter things google translate was a bit better.
DeepL is usually better than GT for English-Finnish, but it is far from *reliable*. It also has problems with more colloquial speech, as you would encounter in chats or messages among friends. Sorry, you still need to take that Finnish course 😉
I personally started using GPT for translations. Much better in understanding context and nuances.
Never used it before, but for curiosity I just tried it with a few random clips of text, including your post. (Also after writing this comment, I copied my own text there to check the result lol).
DeepL seems to give better and more “natural” results where the grammar is more correct too. With a quick test, it seems to do its job just fine especially for non-official text.
I still prefer using Google Translate when I’m just checking a single word simply because it has a better support for synonyms/alternatives – but for sentences, DeepL seems to do a slightly better job as it’s better with grammar. I’ve also been using Copilot for translations a few times recently, and I’d guess any LLM is (roughly) equally good at this point.
