Putin has already refused the US peace proposal which was immediate ceasefire on line of contact, international peace keepers and Ukraine not allowed to join NATO for 10 years. If Putin is refusing that deal then I expect severe oil embargo to follow soon after inauguration day.

This won’t work bc Russia already has the infrastructure in place to get around oil sanctions.
Making more rules does not help if they will disregard the rules. The only way they learn is by force.
Russia needs to get punched in the face and Putin and the corrupt oligarchy need to be dragged out of their palaces and be put to the guillotine in the middle of Red Square.
Then they need serious anti corruption/pro democracy laws put in place that prevent people from becoming powerful enough to screw everything up in the future.
This is the only thing that would fix that country.

The only sure oil sanctions is for Ukraine to keep blowing up Russia oil facilities.

So I am guessing that he is doing this to not look like an asshole for endangering the world if he doesn’t do it.
But now Putin has already turned down the deal, and Ukraine shows NO signs of willing to back down from its desire to join NATO.
How about a hefty delivery of weapons with a side of sanctions? That would be more convincing.
