Wow, can’t recall ever hearing someone contradict a character reference in court.
Tony Hunt not happy with the defence and rightly refused to suspend any of the sentence.
>At the outset of the case this morning, Mr Justice Tony Hunt was told that a number of testimonials had been submitted to court at the sentence hearing last month in which Mooney had been described by relatives and friends as “family oriented” and “always striving to provide for his children” who would “miss him dearly”.

Given how clearly that was contradicted by the mothers of 4 of his 5 children, do people like those relatives and friends get in trouble for submitting false information in the testimonials to the court?
Fair play to those two former partners for coming forward to contradict the BS. And I hope the woman in this case gets some semblance of relief now that it’s over. Great too that Mr Justice Tony Hunt declined to suspend any of the sentence.
Why haven’t the people who perjured themselves by giving fraudulent character witness evidence been prosecuted yet?
We could also do with the Defence Forces confirming quite urgently if those witnesses are members of the Defence Forces.
Why are the defence able to fabricate his character. Surely they should be responsible for doing so?
Prime example for why character witness statements are archaic nonsense and shouldn’t ever be accepted by courts. Crime is a crime regardless of the character who did it.
Everyone will say their friends and family are great. Character statements are meaningless shite.
