The ignition on ours failed so you’d have to try and light it with a match. The large flame after a lot of gas built up used to scare the shite out of me

90s kid, this was a permanent fixture in the kitchen in winter until I was 11 as we had no central heating. Also I bought one myself in the uk in 2015 as the flat I moved into in November had no heating for the first 6 weeks of living there. I do find them oddly pleasant

Did anyone else randomly put a bowl of water under it thinking it made it all healthy?

I’ve one of those yokes heating my room right now.

It’s not quite of that vintage, probably about 20 years old. And yes I’ve got a carbon monoxide alarm.

Jesus my nan had that exact bloody one! I remember having this fired up beside me in my nans sitting room in the early mornings before the fireplace was cleaned out and lit again, watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on the telly and eating a bowl of Coco Pops.

Rolled in? It was the center piece of the kitchen all year round.

Used to get dressed in front of it in the winter.

We have a fancy one as backup heat but I hate using the thing.

When it hadn’t been used for a while you’d smell the dust burning first.
