If he threatens no weapons within Hugh concessions it’s still not acceptable.
He’s too unreliable.

Yeah, there’s a reason why Zelensky is so on board with Trump’s plans to end the war. Because he knows that Putin will basically never agree to the Trump’s conditions to end the war as that would give a clear signal that he is too weak to continue the war, and Russia still has offensive capabilities. Zelensky can then present himself as the reasonable one to Trump while Putin, too stupid to recognize Zelensky’s game, will inevitably present himself as unreasonable to Trump.

Trump’s negotiating tactic early on is actually fairly sound. He establishes early on that he is a “friend of Russia” which gives off the impression he’s not a hawk. He then gives a backhanded compliment saying “Russia helped us win the second world war”. Then he gives threats from there on out. While some may criticize him by not including increased military aid in his threats (and that’s completely fair), it may be due to the fact he may not want to completely reveal his hand to Putin.

Moreover, it’s *Trump*, not Putin who has the leverage. Both economically and politically. Russia’s economy is overheating with inflation reaching double digits according to certain estimates. Prices of everyday groceries like milk, butter and eggs have increased by a lot. Russia cannot increase the interest rates because its interest rate is at 21%. Trump for his part managed to become elected despite being convicted on that same year, there’s no dirt Putin can use against him. Not only is it not effective against Trump, all it would do is antagonize him and his base. Trump also doesn’t want to be the “leader of the free world”, so paradoxically he will be less fearful than Biden as a result.

Trump has been giving mixed signals regarding Ukraine for a long time. But so far, he has still been sending military aid to Ukraine and still maintains sanctions on Russia, even pressuring Orban to do the same. He has called for his European allies to increase their defence budget, and with Russia as a neighbor it’s not unreasonable. As Trump’s presidency pans out people will realize just how anti-Ukraine the Biden administration actually was. Because Ukraine is already feeling comfortable doing a lot of the things they weren’t under the Biden admin.
