I’ve seen no reports of deaths or serious injuries, so looks like everyone was sensible and just stayed indoors where possible.
Well done us.

These storms used to be good for finding the weakness in systems and forcing the council/esb/authority to repair them.
But with so many weaknesses and systems going unmaintained, its really just creating a process where all the repairs need to be done at the exact same time each year.

To be fair to them, we have outages every year due to where we live, and they always have them fixed ahead of time.
But what they’re dealing with after last night must be nearly unprecedented.
I got an alert earlier saying it would be back by 9pm, followed shortly by one saying there’s no estimated recovery time.
Starting to see some estimates now, but you’re talking tomorrow night at the earliest.

My 92 year old grandad is out in the sticks with no power, hopefully it won’t be gone for that long!

Crazy. The power at my parents house was out for a week last big storm. The ESB marked a bunch of trees that they said needed to be cut back to prevent it happening again. Lo and behold the trees were marked but not cut back. Luckily the power didn’t go this time

Lost power last night, came back this afternoon. Fair play to the ESB lads.its still fairly gusty where I am.

Started to really hit our place around 4 ish. Sweet fucking Jesus was it ever loud. I put the AirPods in to sleep which cut out like 90% of the noise but, could still FEEL it in bed

Our power is out again, was out in Dec for 4 days, out last years storm for 5. Recently told (and saw) that the line go through a sika plantation owned by 2 aul brothers down the road. Not even 2 meters from the trees to the line. Esb won’t do anything so some locals asked the aul boys could they sort out some of the trees, wouldn’t allow them on their land.
Buying a generator in next few months, can’t be doing with this crap every winter

Never lost power here, and I’m in Galway.

Lost mine sometime overnight in east Clare, but it’s now back as of about 4PM, so definitely much luckier than some.

They’re doing a fantastic job. Can’t be easy in this weather. It’s scabby cold. We lost power at 6 am ish back by 12 ish. In South Dublin. Luckily is pulled a camping stove and lamps from the shed.

Power at ours has been out since 9am. Literally everywhere around us the power is back except here. Literally across the train tracks, less than 100 meters away the power is back…..except here

I saw a GAA team training at the local track and field here in Mayo.

I’m in Galway and power is still out in my area
I think we’re getting our connection from the Gort substation which is already notoriously flaky so I’m worried we’re going to be without power for the week…
Mobile signal is only just available after being useless for most of the day.
I had to use an old fm Walkman to get the news!
