Is for the registration of trucks to settle the toll that trucks have to pay.
So it doesn’t matter for you as a normal car driver.

That is for the toll but I wouldn’t exclude there can be a speed trap too. In Irschenberg (A8) there’s a stationary speed trap on the speed limit sign on top for example which is impossible to notice

Probably not a speed trap (as other said, they are primarily for road tolls) but I think they can also monitor if you keep enough distance while driving.

They have rangefinder and ticket you, if you are closer than legal to the car in front. There also should be some reference lines across the asphalt.

Or I’m mistaken, and they look similar.

    5. I got a hefty fine with a trap that looks like this setup, I saw the flash and later received the black and white photo with the fine 😄.
That type of speed trap is coupled with sensors built into the road which is 99.9% accurete.

This gantries are being built to inform drivers dynamically. For example, we have static information( like Schild) but in higway dynamic info is important (like gantries) make easier to inform drivers in advance if there a construction what is the allowed speed limit, if there is a jam, lane closure etc.

However, this cameras can capture your car location in x point and the next camera, located at y , can measure your speed based on the distance and your time to pass.

      So both
