Wherever you were eating don’t know how to cook a steak to order.

A decent vet would give it a fighting chance. That steak is cooked blue.
Thanatos_elNyx on
With a chef that incompetent, do you really want to eat anything else?

Had this with a hotel in Louth, after the 3rd steak was still not cooked right I asked for my meal to be taken off the bill. The best they would do is 50% off the meal because they “wasted” 3 steaks, they wouldn’t have been wasted if they had have come out medium rare. I was entirely friendly but treated like I was the problem, manager was a dick too gave it the old we can’t cater to everyone’s tastes. Don’t put cooked to order steak on your menu if your chef can’t cook it then?

The steak is alive!

It was cooked from frozen. You can see the edges all cooked but not the middle.

That’s a crap chef – that stake is on the raw side of “bleu”. Barely seen 60 seconds on the heat of a griddle pan.

I stick to never ordering steak out. I can’t get my head around spending €30+ on one cut when I could get how many in the butcher and do all my favourite sides.

Did you take a picture of the first one?

Do chefs these days not get taught the thumb-touch method?

That’s intentional by the chef. Taking the piss. I wouldn’t eat or pay for it.
I’d say that was cooked from frozen. Where was it?
dubinexile on
That’s rare bordering on blue. Far from medium rare. There’s a cook in that kitchen not a chef and that’s being generous

Just give it a name and introduce it to kids as new pet

Nah, at that point I’d just not eat anything there. That’s an abomination.

The chef definitely undercooked that to make a point, even the bluest of rare steaks should have a decently cooked outer rim, they’ve just dropped that on the grill for a min each side.
They did you twice pal.

Found loads of places that have steak on the menu can never cook a mid rare. Medium always safest bet.
Tend to avoid steak now unless it’s FX Buckley or similar

I love blue steak. My ideal steak is one that isn’t quite able to kick me in the head.
Even then, this is a fucking terribly cooked steak. Pan needs to be hotter and that needs to form a proper outer layer. It’s almost there, but it’s still a lousy job
SnooHabits8484 on
That meat’s fucked, it’s been frozen. That’s why they did it well done, so you didn’t notice

That’s blue.

I very very rarely ever send food back, but went to a relatively expensive place for brunch recently, and the poached eggs were cooked to rubber consistency, with the yolk like a hard boiled egg. I draw the line at that. The whole point of a poached egg is that the yolk oozes when you cut into it.
I think your steak is in that category.

From the exterior it looks like it’s been cooked medium rare.
problem here is the meat!!!
That’s a frozen steak.

As a former cook, agree with all comments, thats too rare, for rare even. Luckily it is OK to eat raw beef if it has been stored properly and not had gone off. But the cook in that restaurant cannot cook a steak. 2 out of 2 incorrect. I would send it back and walk out, if possible. Thats a mess.

Did you ask for a new chef at that point? Clearly they don’t know what they’re doing if they got it wrong in two different ways.

There are too many restaurants in Ireland that can’t get proper chefs. So they hire “cooks” who barely know anything about cooking in the first place. Honestly I don’t bother eating out that much anymore because all too often I’m left disappointed thinking “I could have cooked this better myself at home”. Anymore if I want to go for a meal out, I’ll only go to places that are renowned for good food and service.
Big_Lavishness_6823 on
I don’t tend to eat steak out as it’s one of the few cooking processes the chef isn’t adding much value to. Even if they do a decent job, you could’ve done the same yourself at home.

I hate that shite. I was in a place in sandymount and the poached eggs were way under done, see through white poured out when I cut them. Sent them back and knew well how’d they’d come back – way way overdone. Never went back to the cunts.
