Ah it looks like we can already see the effects of vrt becoming more right-wing
Option A: Refurbish beautiful statue by acclaimed sculptor that fits beautifully within its surroundings and the contextual history.
Option B: Remove the statue and lose valuable heritage, pay even more for a sub-par replacement that meets certain “wokeness” criteria.
Can someone please link the petition to keep this piece where it is? I’d rather my tax-payer money go towards actual art, and not self-congratulatory moralistic nonsense.

You need to really do your best to rewrite something to have less context and be more inflammatory like that. He also removed all the interesting parts about the history of the sculptor, which shows how this is all about outrage and not about the sculpture imo. Being able to compare the two articles gives some insight into how media bias works. I **intensely** dislike VRT using the word “unwoke” because it’s vague and meaningless and clearly used for framing. There’s other stuff like that in there, like how “*contemporary*” is italicized.
I kind of understand where they’re coming from with their ‘this shit don’t fly in today’s society’, but
A) art isn’t created to be relevant forever
B) most contemporary art, in my personal view, is dogshit.
So the embodiment of “wisdom” and “maturity” is the naked old guy surrounded by women and children. I’m happy the statue is not returning.
People wonder why so many people go right wing when people (i do not say all) get rid of beautyfull statues like this.
It’s a beautiful statue, what values are we talking about?
