I heard they are building pools with mosaic of Intel’s chips because they are cheaper than ceramic mosaic.

Obviously smartest way to use solar panels is to use them as a fence. Where 1 side is completely blocked by all the greenery and other is only farming energy hour or two a day. Not even talking about wild life completely destroying them in a year or so.
Might as well make the fence out of plastic.

I don’t think it’s cheaper, it probably would produce enough energy to offset the cost.
Even though they’re mounted in a less than ideal position, it would still produce some energy, without actually taking any space (a fence would still need to be there anyway).
Though the risk of damage is pretty high…

Good wood is very expensive.
Cheap wood doesn’t last long and ends being expensive because you need to replace it after a while.
Building a wall of bricks has more costs of work than simply putting a panel like this.
That’s my quick reasoning, no idea if it’s accurate.
Also, you get electricity. Which means saving money.
So, I don’t know if it’s cheaper but it seems like a clever idea.
Of course, only on the sunny side!

If the fence is facing south I would say its a brilliant idea. The price is about the same as a high end fence, but then you will have a lot of free power.
In winter time the sun is very low, but 90° angles for the panels will increase the output, in the summer you will lose some power but you normally have enough

Yes, specially used panels.

The primary function of these walls is noise reduction from the road so…sure hope that was considered over the price of it.

Yes, can cofirm that.
price wise:
found today, 4m PV fence, €145
single PV fence modul is €80.
So cheaper than most (not cheap looking) fence material.

I never saw one, even though I believe it exists. So, I guess it’s no cheaper. Ihave been wondering to install some on my balcony and didn’t yet because the costs won’t be compensated in less than 10 or 15 years

Depends, the cheapest fences are around 20-30€ for each element (180cm), the better ones are >50€.
You can buy PV modules (178cm) starting at 40€. Ofc with inverter, cables and poles it’s more expensive.

Yet the power companies turn them off because they produce too much.

lol no it isn’t and no they aren’t

Not sure where you got that but it’s beyond stupid

I work in the energy transition.
Remember that the produced electricity has to go somewhere. The electricity grid needs to have the capacity to do so. If the grid is too small, it will cost more to use the grid than the produced electricity is worth

Well, a solar panel measures 2/1 meters, for my needs(15m length and 2 meters high) and I would need 16 panels(460w per panel) , at 65 euro per panel that equals 1046 euros without the structure to hold them in place so add another 500 euros, I get the same price as Wpc. OK you need wires and inverter(add another 1000 euro) but hey you get almost a 7kw(because of the placement probably half).
StayCoolf0rttheKids on
I can confirm! You can get single panel for 40€ and it’s enough for one section of the fence

Also a lot uglier

Yes that right, 80 € for a solar panel 410 w. Wood and all steel cost around 300€

not cheaper, but the angle of the sun is so low in the winter that upright panels work great at that time, while the ones at a 30 degree angle on the roof do fuck all even on a sunny day

Putting those in a proper location, with correct angle would be a better use of these resources.
Using them like that just get them dustier, inefficient and it just a wasteful greenwashing.
