What use are the cunts in the Dail for people without power or water? Is there something that needs to be voted on?
This notion that everyone is on holidays because they’re not shouting at each other in the Dail is nonsense. Or are the opposition parties actually taking it as a holiday?

The TD’s are not on holiday and working in their departments.
If they had to vote for the ESB to work or something like that then it would make sense for a recall
So lets game this out. Dail is back. Opposition asks questions of the minister, from the meta (“describe the preparations for situation x”) to the micro (“when will my constituent at the following address have their electricity back”).
The Minister isn’t psychic, so will have to prepare or come back to the question by asking their officials. Their officials will in turn ask someone in a relevant organisation, who will ask someone close to the problem.
What is this person close to the problem currently engaged with?
Fixing the problems.
What will they not be doing while they answer a rake of ministerial questions?

I’m not sure what intelligence might be applied to the physical problem of broken lines by our TD cohort.
This is ridiculous. Politicians and their teams should be focused on their constituents amd constituencies instead of generating social media clips which is all this would be. The next election is years away, the populist carry on can take a break for a while

This really puts the clownery of last week in perspective.
Has the Dail ever been recalled?
Worst storm to hit us in decades, ESB and Irish Water have been working around the clock and most people have estimates of when they can expect power again, not to workers are being moved across the country to assist.
I know a lot of people are still waiting to get power back, but not sure how the Dail could expedite that with a vote.
I don’t see what difference them being called in will actually make. I think Dail TDs don’t recognise that 99% of the public pay zero attention to the talking shop that happens in the Dail. I wasn’t even aware they weren’t sitting this week because it makes no difference to me.
Is there some resolution or vote that needs to happen to make the jobs of the ESB and Irish Water any easier? Seems like opposition trying to score cheap points over nothing?
I don’t know why, but the phrase “build a bridge out of ‘er” comes to mind.
Maybe she could provide hot air for all those who lost heating…
Why is it only the journal seem to ever report on what the opposition says? Why do our national media ignore the opposition until it suits them?

Realistically, what does the opposition think they can achieve with the Dail recalled this week? Are they gonna arrange a round of applause for the frontline workers?
I’m staying in a hotel here in Cavan as there’s still no water and power in my area and there won’t be until at least the 2nd of February! There are people less fortunate who are freezing in their homes with children and having to look after livestock and somehow get water for them all.
I never thought I’d see this government be as incompetent as the dark days of Brian Cowan but my god I was wrong. In the mornings here people were packing the lobby to try and charge their phones, get a phone signal because there’s none outside of town and only today were places opened up to get water, a bit of heat a shower. The community centres should be set up to house people overnight for god sake! I fear there will be old people found dead in their homes after this.
The army should have been mobilised to get water to where it is needed urgently, to set up shelters and help in places like Leitrim where whole forestry’s have blown down on the power lines.
This government knew that this storm was going to be one of the worst, the public were told, the eu offered help and they were busy arguing over how much power they could grab while we sat in the dark! Now I’m sure many of them are sitting in their 2nd homes in Dublin with their heads up their hole.
Sinn Fein are abysmal on climate change, they have some neck complaining here
