Basically, the bank wants the government to remove the restriction on executive salaries at the bank. The government can’t/won’t do it while it owns it because it would be politically damaging. So they are now selling the shares.
Once the shares are gone they will quickly remove the salary cap and AIB will then start paying the big bucks. They will say this is good because you need “TOP TALENT” to grow the business. The “they” who say this are also said “TOP TALENT” who will benefit from the big salaries.
It’s a bit weird that while it has this salary cap it’s also been one of the best-performing banking stocks in Europe…I thought TOP TALENT was needed for success?

BoI has been fully private for years now and no big bonuses there. Holding on to 12.5% will achieve nothing. The people running that bank are not the people who bust it. Hope the funds are reinvested in much needed infrastructure.

Who cares, the traditional banks are dying a slow death to revolut, n26, trade republic and the other fintech banks. When kids who’ve grown up only knowing a Revolut account these guys will be as dead as the dodo
