Row upon row of 5-storey largely residential buildings with commercial space on the ground floor? Just like in *all* the rest of Europe?

I’m from Dublin and have lived in Berlin, Barcelona, Milan, Paris, and Amsterdam over the years. There are *millions* of those types of properties in those cities.

I can’t think of a single significant stretch of them in Dublin unless you’re counting what remains of Georgian squares, all of which have long ceased to be of any practical residential value.

There’s nothing in Dublin to treat.

    2. How dare you suggest decimating the historic streets of Dublin

Getting a fire cert on an old building is next to impossible.

We’ve been trying to do this to the shithole that is Moore Street for ages

People keep objecting, same story in many places.

Compared to how the buildings looked in the 80’s covered in a thick layer of filth, basically the entirely of Dublin has been restored like this.

Could we just get the ESB and whoever else is involved to clean up the wires running across the house fronts and street fronts? It would probably take a decade or two but even insisting that when they do some work on a house the tidy up the chaotic wiring that they’re working on.

Some parts of Salthill are waiting for the next large storm to help ease the demolition costs.

Stephen’s Green shopping centre has a similarly art deco style to it but somebody in DCC decided to it was too stylish for Dublin.

If only they’d do that to our city centres!

Grimy, decrepit, delapidated, it makes the city look shite. It’d make the whole city centre so much better if the buildings above the shops were restored and the owners forced to take care of them.

There’s usually an enormous challenge in trying to get private owners of these buildings to do anything other than collect rent. We’ve cities basically owned by slumlords that barely even carry out basic maintenance and weak city councils that are entirely captured by them.

There’s been loads of great restoration work done on Thomas St.
