These are photos off the badly destroyed apartment complex which used to host a lovely restaurant at the front and Kindergarten in the centre. The apartments are pretty much all abandoned now. Walking through them, paints a sad picture. These used to be the homes that families cared for.
However, not all is negative. The Kindergarten in the centre has been rebuilt by Project Hope.
The town was also visited by Banksy in 2022, who left his mark on a few buildings. The wall on which he painted his Judo image, has since been moved into an enclosure in the centre of the apartment complex, protecting it from the elements to preserve it for the future.
…::: A personal few notes :::…
There are photos from my visit to Borodyanka in late November 2024 as I’m riding a small motorcycle around the world from Australia. Ukraine was on my must list as I have friends there and feel a strong connection to the country.
I knew about Irpin, Bucha and Hostomel (I’ve got images from these locations too), but either forgot about Borodyanka or simply couldn’t connect images of the apartments to the name of the town, the first months of the invasion were an information overload. However, when I stayed with a lovely family in the outskirts of Kyiv and met people in Iprin, they told me that I really need to go and visit this complex that just to the big roundabout entering Borodyanka.
“Luckily?”, these locations didn’t see the grinding advances that have happened in the east like: Mariupol, Bakhmut and now Chasiv Yar where everything has been ground down by the russians.
