The US president has threatened tariffs against the EU unless it buys more American fossil fuels — and European officials are keen to engage.

But Paris argues placating Donald Trump shouldn’t mean bending the knee.

      Allez les blue!

The EU is usually quite deft at targeting the activities of specific US states pushing for conflict but since this is coming from the very top I wonder what the angle can be?

      Don’t even engage.

This guy can’t understand why a country with 10x LESS population doesn’t buy more.

Guy is busy talking about a trade deal he negotiated causing a trade balance.

American here, for the record I support DJT and I’m ready to square off with the EU.

I know reddit and this sub is left wing echo chamber so there will be a bunch of American bashing here and from leftist us commentary but so be it.

The usa is not the world’s police man either, the EU can and will pick up the slack. I love to visit Europe, bit it’s time for US and EU to be more separate.

Trump doesn’t need to get the whole EU to flip, only a handful of countries like Poland, Italy, etc. Then he can exempt the products from those countries from tariffs while hitting up the rest of the EU. Divide and conquer.

      And then there’s this problem:

      >The EU, however, sees buying U.S. gas as a convenient way to fully end Russian LNG imports by 2027. The bloc bought record levels of the fuel from Moscow last year.

      >Despite that, Brussels chose not to crack down on Russian LNG in its latest sanctions proposal this week, prompting disappointment from the bloc’s hawks.

How are we expected to stand up to Trump when we can’t even stand up to Putin?

      >France is currently the bloc’s biggest direct buyer of Russian LNG. Last month the country bought 660,000 tons of the fuel, according to the Kpler commodities platform, accounting for 43 percent of the EU’s total imports.

France is looking pretty hypocritical in all of this. I don’t disagree with the message but the optic is really poor.

US has the perfect opportunity to weaken russia, and undercut their oil and gas revenue and sell american oil and gas to europe

instead, for no rhyme or reason, he’s placed 20% + tariffs on Canada and EU, only 10% on China, and it’s looking like russia will not get any significant sanctions on top of what they have now

his whole plan with imposing rely on US imposing tariffs but not getting hit back. Canada and EU should still try to be diplomatic, but should not hesitate in the end to cut significant economic ties with the US

    8. Banning xitter, Meta and Tiktok (that will probably bought by USA) would be nice.

    9. if Donald wants to bitch about oil, there is a country desperate to sell for rock bottom prices right next to europe

Any country giving into Trumps bullying tactics is finished because he’ll just keep coming back for more. You have to hold on, your pain is his pain too remember.
