It’s a chimney hole cover. It covers an unused chimney connection for a fireplace
Either a chimney hole cover, but i think it is to small. But there also can be cable for Lights behind. Looks like a cap. There is a screw in the middle you can get out and look behind. I would guess it is for a wall lamp.
Very likely that there is cables unter that.
Maybe a fixture.
That wall is new.
And our houses rarely have vents. Let alone old ones.
