Basically instead of lasting 30 years, the NKR would last an extra 2 years because we saw how easily it got blockaded.
It wouldnt have changed anything in terms of status for Karabakh ultimately cause Armenias leaders were the problem
Perhaps would have made invasion occur sooner rather than later and gotten rid of that moralizing talking point of Armenians desecrating land etc etc but more likely than not it would have been used for further propaganda of a different form
The only thing that would make any difference is official status that is broadly recognised worldwide. If you can’t secure a recognition of Armenian sovereignty under the international legal regime, you have achieved nothing but a deferral of your problem to a later time, as we have clearly found.
>Or not even invading them
The bombings on Artsakh proper stopped as soon as Aghdam fell, 9 months before the ceasefire was signed.
>returnign the regions
So basically, what Armenians have been proposing since 1994? In return for accepting the independence of Armenians in Artsakh, the regions would have been returned already.
Ignore the fact that that the process was sabotaged by multiple factors. At some point in the negotiations, Armenia and Artsakh were sitting on the table with Azerbaijan and the mayor of Shushi.
Then again, you can’t cry that diplomacy failed with a country that is a dictatorship, and didn’t (nor they ever would) accept a democratic decision of Armenians to gain independence.
Then what diplomacy are you talking about?
Lasting peace, in cases of occupation, comes first and foremost with the emancipation of the population that is asking for it. That includes democratic rights, to vote themselves out of a country. An extremely left leaning process. That is scary for an extremely right leaning dictatorship.
