Don’t get me wrong, and I am advocate for the free market and free capital movement, but their stock market is not that. It is completely inflated by their money printing and are just suckers importing their inflation at the cost of investment dryness for our companies here.
Nope. At least not without caveats and exceptions. It would suck too much for the people who work for global companies listed on the US stock exchanges that get part of their pay in shares.
Tax capital gains full stop. Tax capital gains on foreign stocks higher than on EU stocks.
Yes-yes, very good, thANK YOUUU
> “our companies and not theirs”
a genuine question – what companies
Yes. Exactly. Everyone fking wonders why EU is not prospering. Because ALL our savings (pensions, investments) and profits are invested mostly in USA, not EU companies. How the fk would we expect otherwise?
Already pay 42% capital gains tax on Denmark plus extra fees for non domestic stock.
Please not any more.
EU is unlikely to do that, as they are just puppets of USA.
Of all the terrible ideas I’ve seen on this sub lately, this is by far the worst for a long list of reasons. Gains in the US stock market are already taxed (in Portugal I pay 28% whenever I realize gains). The vast majority of people invest in funds domiciled in the EU. US companies also have their stock listed in EU exchanges. If you label these companies as American companies, they’ll simply open a European branch and they are now a European company. If you still discriminate against them based on their country of inception, expect millions of Europeans to suffer and lose their jobs due to the inevitable ripple effect that this would have.
Good way to fuck EU investors over. If you punish me for a diversified portfolio the european Investors are shafted.
The US think they are so important. The EU can find the stuff elsewhere. Most of the “American” stuff have components from China. Guess thats why its only 10%.
Looks like the grinch
No, just do like France, 150K€ with “no tax” if you invest in European stocks.
Monday: Why doesn’t Europe have thriving international industries
Tuesday: We need punitive taxation for people who invest in thriving international industries, that will teach them
I never understood why capital gain tax is way lower than labour taxes anyway. It should be the other way around…
If the EU actually protected its own markets with the same enthusiasm it regulates cheese names, we wouldn’t be having this problem.
That sound lime a big middle finger to people already taxed to death. Like oh you found a way to make money with your savings. Extra fees because fuck your future.
The Turkmenistan solutions will certainly make Europe prosper.
EU should help companies grow, not impose yet another tariff on people. Why do you think everybody flocks to USA stock ? Any EU etf is underperforming by a lot.
Coming from a financially illiterate woke redditor
This is the worst idea you can come up with.
Fuck all EU ordinary people for nothing.
Instead of incentivating EU investments through less burocracy and less taxes
You could also make the regulations so EU companies remain competitive. Then investment capital will just stay here.
Communism let’s goooo !! I’m excited 😆
What a dumb idea
So we’re criticizing US tariffs but then doing the same? I already pay taxes on gains thank you very much. How about the EU make european companies attractive for once?
What this would do without any policy or incentive change would be for people to either run to some other markets (no guarantee on investment in EU companies) or just stuffing savings accounts.
That’s the worst idea I’ve heard this week, and that’s saying something.
Maybe we should have companies with better prospects than theirs? And market will take care of the rest?
This is the wrong direction. Leave the tax where it is. In Germany its 25 %. I would be okay if it is lower for european companys but do not increase it. EU citizens should be free to invest where they want. There are better ways of helping european companies out.
Oh yea tarriffs, the well known path to eternal prosperity. Why dont we outright burn down the stock markets.
I swear to god, this sub is filled with brain dead people.
I think trump is playing with fire with the tariffs.
The global American companies are being given very favourable tax terms, even Starbucks is skirting around the rules, but the biggest are all the tech giants,if they pay up properly I’m sure it would offset the tariffs
How about we make it just as easy for EU business to prosper in EU?
Let’s stop using these retarded tariffs.
I bet OP has no investing portfolio and thinks anyone investing is a rich terrible person.
what investment here? we don’t invest in EU stock market or startups because the environment is not as such to provide gains.
This is a disastrous idea.
(Young) Europeans are investing in U.S. stocks due to UE overtaxation and overregulation when it comes to investing; since the EU member states want to fie their people’s fortunes to state-provided pensions.
The EU already tarrifs shit.
2015-2025 +70% foreign investments into USA from europe! from ~2T USD 2015 to 3.46 TRILLION USD 2023 accounting for almost 2/3 of total foreign investments into the USA! THIS MUST STOP NOW!
Enough reddit for today
Fairly sure there would be a lot of anti-competition laws stopping such a move.
Yes lets shoot ourselves in the dick. Good plan. Bravo
please if you don’t know what you’re talking about be polite enough to be quiet
so you want to take my only hope of buying a house in 20 years away?
They could inversily do like dividends in some countries that are not taxed or like capital gains in Switzerland that is not taxed.
If you at least didn’t not tax it for EU and created more homogenous Eu system to clearly invest in EU for retirement etc this would also strengthen the local companies.
Taxing is not an incentive but just disincentive to invest in the US but also does not push to invest locally…
They could otherwise push for local investment, by making it tax free.
