And increase the number of pensioners? No people should die sooner! More alcohol, more tobacco! Bring back asbestos and coal!

Yeah its a shame really. When cigarettes were losing popularity and less and less people smoked them, then vapes and other tobacco consuming products were created. And we all know how that ended.

Where’s the fun in that

The taxes generated from the sales of these products outweighs the cost of treatment, they don’t ban it because its profitable for the EU and an outright ban would simply create a blackmarket much like the prohibition, education about alcohol and tobacco is a much better way to combat and reduce it

Why? Seeing the world today I say light up and get pissed. Now if I lived in a more civil world I would agree with anti-smoking /drinking msg. After this past week I realized we will be in trenches soon enough wishing we had enjoyed ourselves. Enjoy what we have left while we still have it.

It’s crazy this hasn’t happened already.

Yeah, also salt and fat, after all first cause of death by far are cardiovascular diseases.
Here we are walking a dangerous path in which we are empowering the governments in deciding what we may or may not drink, smoke, eat and exercise, and when and how much.
Once the door is open the discussion goes on “how open” it should be and the incrementalism knows well that – since we are speaking of power grab over people – in the long term the answer is “never enough”.

An excise tax on laughing would be great on EU values and economy too

People smoking are straight up stupid. I’m sorry but you can’t change my mind about this. I can understand drinking but smoking cigarettes just make absolutely no fucking sense.

As a smoker the only thing this will introduce is the black market. I live in Ireland, most people vape, but occasional smoker (pack is €18), usually just buys abroad, and brings them in. You can even order cigs for cheaper online. You’re just causing unregulated products coming over the border. Same with alcohol. Makes no sense. While all of that is going on, nothing is done about the vapes, or even worse disposable vapes.
Also I pay my private insurance, so I’m not even a burden on the healthcare.

Ruin anything pleasurable … let’s face reality; alcohol facilitates socialization, and social life is healthy. Loneliness destroys health and leads to fewer births.

yup sure, lets set a precedent for the goverment to intrude even more into our lives or add another tax ontop. Next up on the line, sugar, fat and salt.
