      I doubt Trump would extend the invite without getting concessions anyway. He (or those around him) know how important it is to Ireland.

      Our student union politicians will of course be calling for us to not go.

      They won’t be happy until we isolate ourselves internationally and our economy collapses.

      I think we and the rest of the world can outlast the Trump presidency.

      He’s given Elon Musk ethical protection as he and a bunch of 20year olds straight out of college are apparently raided the Treasury computers gathering people’s personal info.

      They’re chasing away all the illegal AND LEGAL immigrants so their workforce is about to go down the sink soon.

      Turning MAGA on trans ppl and now this DEI stuff which will likely negatively effect minorities and women and disabled ppl in the workplace.

      Some random Republican has even filed to get rid of gay marriage 👎🏻 they are quickly trying to go back in time 50years it just won’t work!!

      Tariff wars with the friendliest neighbor you could ever ask for Canada 🤷🏻‍♂️ and Mexico which will raise prices hugely for everyone like it’s only been 2 weeks those MAGA ppl have no idea what a full on tariff war will do to them 🤣

      Picking fights left and right 🤣🤷🏻‍♂️

      Threatened all of South America to stay using the dollar OR ELSE 100% tariffs 🤦🏻‍♂️

      All this is doing is pushing all countries around the USA in 6 months to 1 year actual common sense will prevail in America and I would hope ppl wake up and realize by then they’ve been scammed. Then again I thought we thought this was obvious 8years ago and he seems to have even more fans now

      Same individuals calling for / supporting a boycott will be the same ones criticising the government if the economy tanks and there are job losses and public spending cuts.

      I love they way they never add the TDs name in the headline and you know it’s some irrelevant hack.

      America accounts for 30% of Exports at roughly €61 billion Euro with total trade worth around €90 billion. This effects approximately 400,000 jobs, most of which are high paying.

      These annual white house visits help maintain and grow this. We’re probably one of the smallest countries in the world that gets so much face time.

      You could consider the US a fairly significant guarantor or underwriter of Irish sovereignty as well as a significant political and economic allie … Trump at this point in time imagines he has the power of a mediaeval Pope, and I’m sure it wouldn’t be beyond him to “gift” us to the UK … better keep him sweet!

      Trump doesn’t operate the same way or value political events like this as previous American presidents. We should probably still go, if only to avoid upsetting him, but I doubt there’s anything the government could say or do to positively influence his policies toward Ireland or anything else.

      However, I do think the government’s actions could easily draw negative attention from Trump. My feeling is that we should maintain appearances. And Trump, much like the T. rex in Jurassic Park, seems to base his reactions on movement. So we should stay absolutely still.
