      “Big boys’ games, big boys’ rules” was the SAS attitude in the North. Caught in the act with a gun or a bomb and they’d shoot, often planned ambushes with the same goal

      Scouser here with strong Irish roots so I am genuinely not looking to start an argument but honest question – if 4 armed IRA members had come across 4 unarmed soldiers in a car park what would the outcome be?

      Common law pretty much got suspended in a part of the UK and no one in the UK gave or gives a shit.

      It was an assassination in no uncertain terms against under the letter of the law, British subjects on British soil.

      I’m sure most IRA men considered it just the risks of war but it’s kinda mad the rules were totally ignored back then and no one really cared.
