This will be interesting. We’re in unprecedented times. Something’s got to change.
Good. Russia, China, the UK, France, and the US should not have a veto over our military. Brain dead system.
Great. If we want Irish neutrality, we can’t have our foreign policy subject to the veto of madlads like Trump or Putin.
I know people love going on about the General Assembly here but the General Assembly has been involved in the deployment of troops once in its history, which was 69 years ago and only as the Security Council allowed it.
Good, letting insane dictators like putin and trump having control over us like this is crazy
What is with the hair style
We can’t keep on having others pay to protect us. Have to step up!
Well I think we’ve just identified the next “Ceann Comhairle! Ceann Comhairle! CEANN COMHAIRLE!!” shouting match.
Genuine question that I should probably google rather than ask the sub.
Does Austria, the other medium-small sized neutral EU member have a similar triple lock system?
Regardless of if they do or not, as an advocate of our neutrality, having America, Russia or China being able to dictate what we can or can’t do is idiotic.
Question: is there any other country in the world that gives the UN Security Council a veto on how they choose to deploy their armed forces like this?
I’d be in favour of *a* triple lock remaining in place, so long as the third “lock” remained internal, e.g giving the President the power to veto a deployment. Giving that veto to 5 of the most belligerent states on the planet however (one of which is our former coloniser) is a frankly bizarre display of national self-flagellation.
Good. This Triple Lock needs to be scrapped.
About time – a cowards chatter that is long overdue changing. Only problem is having to listen to those insufferable windbags now hollering about “loss of neutrality”!
It’s time to put aside our delusions of neutrality and play with our european buddies.
