They used a photo that looks like he just said “I know I said no takesy backsies, but I had my fingers crossed, so…”

Translation: We’re gonna continue to lie about what we will set out to achieve and there is nothing you can do about it.

25% margin of error. Year after year they promise us they will build a load of homes but couldn’t *possibly* change any regulations that would make it easier/more efficient to build houses. Each year they miss their targets and just say they’ll do a better job the following year. Nothing changes. The cycle repeats.

“We pulled a figure out of our arses (just like that shyster David Drumm) and then you chumps voted us back in, so…TOUGH SHIT.”

lol they have thrown him completely under the bus.

As opposed to just admitting they deliberately misled the public and knew what they were doing.

He was the taoiseach when this figure was pushed out onto the public, fundamentally he’s responsible

But this being Ireland, they accept fuck all responsibility and blame everyone else once they’re found out

Amazing how the busses start showing up when they need to throw someone under one

I support FF but I actually couldn’t believe Darragh O’Brien got voted in again. 40k was a blatant lie.

Opposition & journalists should have shot that figure down at source. No good whinging about it now

Harris is a snakey prick. He even has a big weasel head on him so no surprise at his response.

    9. Couldn’t/Shouldn’t  they have listened to the ESRI and Central bank who were showing a different (and proven to be far more accurate) picture on housing completions to O’Brien?

It’s also funny how Michael Martin tried to handwave this all away by saying “uh, actually Deutsche Bank also said we’d see 40,000 completions” only for Deutsche Bank to come out and say “whoa, whoa we based that on the bullshit you and your housing minister **told us**!

Why not? Just throw out any number you like; responsibly, accountability and competence are meaningless concepts these days

If anyone who has worked with them will know, the department of housing are not fit for purpose on an operational level.

93,000 houses needed a year til 2031 in order to keep up with demand and we are churning out 30,000

      Lord help us

I honestly don’t know how anyone who votes FFG can sleep at night. The seeds have been sown and i think few understand the nightmare that’s coming

    13. No-Outside6067 on

He was in the dail yesterday claiming we will build more houses than ever based on commencement notices. But that was how O’Brien came to his figure last year.

You can’t claim he misled you and then use the exact same shoddy methodology he used to overestimate housing figures.
