All well and good to be an armchair activist, but when push comes to shove they’re just another mouthpiece who changes their Facebook profiler to whatever this week’s cause is.

It’s virtue signalling. Erica Cody signed the same letter just a few weeks after not winning at Eurosong. I get it tbh. It’s hard to survive in the music industry, it’s great to have a moral stance but competing at ESC could completely change a person’s life.
And Bambi last year was extremely outspoken about the Palestinian people, they were the strongest pro-Palestinian voice at the competition. They bought attention to the matter rather than just let Israel compete as if nothing was happening, not going to ESC is not going to effect the competition or help Palestine in any way
You either enter Eurosong with the full intention of participating in Eurovision. Or, don’t enter. It shouldn’t be difficult.

It could be the case that she may win, and then decide not to enter. If she says now, explicitly, that she will not enter because she opposes Israel, she may not make it through. Just giving the benefit of the doubt here. I hope whoever gets through boycotts the damn thing, but their stance would be futile if they did not get through in the first place.
I fully support Palestine but it’s very easy to sit in an armchair saying participating artists should have boycotted Eurovision when it’s not you that has to consider giving up the career opportunity of a lifetime for a symbolic gesture that ultimately won’t achieve anything.
Now that the shoes on the other foot they’re starting to realise that the world is too nuanced for moral purity tests. I have a lot of respect for Bambie Thug for being brave enough to put up with the criticism at the time.

Eh, I just gave the entry a listen fully expecting something terrible, but it was actually good by Eurovision standards and something that felt Irish. Hopefully she hasn’t sabotaged herself with stupidity.
