I can’t be the only one who thinks a song romanticizing the very real story of sending a vulnerable animal into space to die is a good look for Ireland
That is so shite.
I really like the song, it’s very catchy and Emmy seems like a very sweet person, but it’s really bothering me that the act has absolutely no connection to Ireland (bar 1 of the 5 songwriters being Irish, from a Norwegian songwriting camp). It just feels very weird to be sending this one to represent Ireland when there’s nothing Irish about it, but maybe I’m the exception cos social media seems to be delighted with the result.
It’s a tackfest —that’s kind of the point.
It’s pretty forgettable. Not fancying our chances.
Great song and performance. Best act of the night definately won. Eurovision, here we come!

Look at this shambolic record. Jedward does unusually well in 2011 and besides that its just failure after failure except for the one time we accidentally send an act that reflects the reality of the competition as it exists today and that does really well, but we learn absolutely no lessons from that and return to normal. We’re going to send this act, fail to get into the finals then mutter about block voting to try and explain why we have gone nowhere yet again.
The Eurovision as it exists in the minds of the people in RTE hasn’t existed since Finland changed the game in 2006; there is no excuse for continuing to cling to it.

Song was made to get into the Eurovision not to win it
Bring back Jedward instead.
I have a feeling that this song will generate controversy for celebrating the Russian space program.
I’m a big eurovison fan and year after year I’m always asking “who picks the shortlisted songs?!” I’m always just whelmed by them. Never excited besides bambi last year.
We have such talent on this island. I’m screaming from the rooftops that the scratch never got on the eurovison. They took the Irish sound and made it modern in their way. Imagine them playing seanchaí and bringing the trad sesh energy out there for everyone. Beats a hot girl act or the ballads anyway.
We need an XFactor type show were the public vote the acts of week after week.
Having watched the show it was the best of a bad bunch.
Whatever about this song being good or not, I think it’s a punt.
I’m all for showcasing Irish talent but none of the other songs tonight were particularly good. They tried way too hard to be ‘Eurovision-y’, fighting the last battle.
Sometimes songs like this can do well, while all the other ones were middling.
This is not even going to reach the final.
