When I first read that headline, I assumed it was going to be the Daily Mail… Fucking Irish Times?!

” The South” to refer to the country firstly, I don’t know where to start. And why would we ever join the commonwealth?

The North must accept that the Republic we’ve got is the likely shape of what they’re joining. The population of the 26 counties are quite content with the constitutional and symbolic trappings of their Republic. Take it or stay with Britain, that’s a border poll you can actually base in reality.

wtf is the point of this? Breaking News, Unionists want to remain attached to the UK. Breaking News, Republicans dont want to be apart of the UK

Dopey. Anyone serious about Irish unity should consider both.

It’s not just going to be a takeover

Joining the Commonwealth shouldn’t be seen as a totally controversial step. I’m not saying I’m in favour, necessarily, but I’d like to see a debate about what it would look like.

Mainly these days, it seems to benefit the victims of the British far more than the British themselves, and we can happily be members without accepting the crown.

Am I completely headless for being surprised just 7% of protestants would be in favor of unity? I’m also not sure what the point of the commonwealth is

Irish times was literally set up to be the “Voice of Unionism” way back when. Seeing people astonished at their unionism never fails to astonish me

No one has even been able to give me a positive argument for Ireland rejoining the commonwealth. The only thing they can come up with is “it would be a nice gesture towards the unionists.” Needless to say, the gesture would not be reciprocated in any way. Plus the commonwealth is basically a talking shop and an excuse for politicians to go on junkets and put out statements full of lofty rhetoric about climate change or whatever, but it never actually accomplishes anything.

    11. Why are FG so desperate to get us to join the commonwealth? They seem to want it more than the unionists up north, I would be open to changing our flag but not join the commonwealth.

The Healy-Raes can be our NATO and Commonwealth Ambassadors.

NATO, they should set up bases around the West and buy local and employ locals. Pure cash cow the west.

      Commonwealth: Never.
