First time I heard of this initiative but that looks like a resounding no.

Shocked that the country that played both sides during WW2 would vote against Enviromental Responsibility!

    3. fwubglubbel on

They would be voting to live in poverty. Like all advanced countries, their current consumption is way more than their share by population of the entire planet.

The initiative is well intended but unrealistic.

Seems to me that all these youth green parties are really delusional no matter what country they are based on.

edit: …and they think having protests, blocking roads, making paint attacks on public buildings, causing all sorts of mayhem helps their cause.

    5. Lol… voting for more actions against cllmate change, but being against it when it actually could affect your life

    6. Can anyone from Switzerland explain this?

Why would you vote no against this? Is it using bad data? If the data is good, what do you do when you’ve run out of natural resources? This appears to indicate that people either don’t understand what finite resources are, or they simply don’t care about future generations as long as they get to do what they want to do now.

    7. The best example of the swiss would be they are similar to dwarves just greedy isolationaists that only care what is best for themselves and how to make the most money from it.

The proposal was unrealistic and radical, with no impact on the overall climate change and the influence potential to cripple our own economy. It was an informed vote.

Jeff Bezos has a yacht that has a yacht that has a yacht. Elon Musk launches dozens of rockets. Trump is “drill, drill, drill”. I must eat less meat, use paper straws, and be environmentally conscientious and responsible. GTFO. Eat the rich.

Switzerland got litigated by bunch of grannies at ECHR for failing to protect their rights from the effects for climate change and [won](https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2024/apr/09/human-rights-violated-inaction-climate-echr-rules-landmark-case).

But in Switzerland, their contribution to climate mitigation is carbon offsets. Basically, they can emit as much as they want because they can pay other countries not to emit or emit less, and make that **Switzerland’s** contribution to climate protection and net zero.

    11. To be fair, if the US, as the absolute biggest historical green house gases emitter, doesn’t want to do its part, other countries can’t really have an impact on climate change.

It’s a vote for who cares about the future and who cares about their own life right now. People voted for themselves, not very surprising. But I am impressed at the amount of people who voted for it. That’s progress.

Unless china and the U.S decide to take climate change more seriously expect more of this.

Would have been great if it had passed but it basically would have meant no more cars and no imports (imports come from countries with co2 heavy electricity).

Meanwhile the same Swiss people are worried about the melting glaciers and the lack of snow in some alps that are affecting the tourism and local economies. What a strange world of people voting against their own interests on and on.

    16. No_Heart_SoD on

Oh what a surprise, the people who have been accepting blood money for centuries don’t give a damn.

    17. Sad-Jello629 on

Unfortunately, I don’t think the climate crisis and environmental crisis can be solved through democracy, people are to easy to influence. Ultimately, when the shit will hit the fan, we are going to need autocracy and enforcement to deal with it.

Naja Schweiz halt. Die pseudo neutralen Dödel, da wundert einen nix mehr.

    19. Unfortunately OP went out of his/her way to highlight something, without giving context/more information.
I suppose a lot of people come here not to create an opinion, but rather share theirs.

      Anyway, here is more context:

The federal government recommended a “No”:
“The Federal Council and parliament reject the initiative. It would result in numerous new regulations and bans that would severely restrict consumption, weaken the economy and make products and services more expensive. The Federal Council and parliament therefore want to continue with the current environmental policy.”

      E.g., **90% reduction in consumption-based emissions**

Don’t ask the swiss when they granted women the right to vote..

    21. SevenNites on

Good, UK did this the result is UK can’t build any infrastructure anymore, they passed laws that any government project must be carbon neutral and must not impede Net Zero 2050 target.

All government project are stopped by the courts from NIMBY legal challenges and all legal fees are paid for by taxpayers on both sides, result is years of consultations and legal battles until the projects are dropped.

    22. If you look into the popular initiative itself, this is not a refusal to protect the environment. Also the voter turnout was just around 38%.

    23. ahma-tti on

alarming? why do we humans keep voting against our future…

    24. superurgentcatbox on

People are always surprised by how rightwing/conservative Switzerland is lol. I really don’t understand how they got this left-leaning image because it’s simply not reality.

    25. BachelorThesises on

I also voted against it because it was a ridiculous intiative by the young Greens that was simply absolutely unrealistic.

    26. Raketenelch on

They better not ask for help/support once the landslides and rockslides start to pile up.

    27. People don’t want to be responsible for their pollution. Look at boomers absolutely denying overwhelming evidence of climate change. Because it would kind of require them to say “sorry, let’s change”.

    28. MrEdinLaw on

Nah bra, rich people will balance it out if we save on anything.
