      I think we already knew that. Still, he was asked about it at lunchtime so it’s another trivial story for the afternoon. That said I’m sure many do now budget the winter with the credits in mind.

      Brilliant news, all coming off the announcement that the ESB will be increasing prices to help pay for all the work they’ve been doing to fix infrastructure damaged after the storm. And didn’t the ESB report “bumper profits”

      Not a fan of FG but to be fair those energy credits were an astute political move. During rampant inflation they couldnt control the increasing cost of food but they could provide relief though energy. If they hadnt of done it then the price of electricity would have developed into a proper political storm. To their credit they recognised that quickly and dealt with it.

      I’ve barely had to pay an esb bill for a about 4 years.

      Among the highest energy prices in Europe, profits of the providers soaring, but sure nothing to see here it’s just the way it works, the fat cats must get fatter

      I was reading recently that like 14% of the wind energy was wasted due to the grid being unable to handle the load. Are there any projects to improve the grid to take on all of the wind energy? If we aren’t harnessing it all properly I can’t imagine the prices going down.

      We need that money to give to NATO billionaires in their quest to make even more money from war and keep the economic system intact. The same economic system that prevents people from housing themselves.

      I swear no matter the government, this country’s leaders always think they can just solve a problem by throwing money at it. 

      Now look, the energy credits are being taken away and those that were in need in the beginning probably need them more now, and the companies you’ve been paying the credits basically directly to aren’t lowering prices either. 

      Everything in this country is a temporary solution to a permanent problem, until which point the permanent problem becomes too complex and becomes “well, it’s just how it is here, there’s no fixing it now”. It’s infuriating how little long term planning is seemingly ever done.

      Yeah and inflation rose by 1.5% since the end of last year.
      Euro buys nothing and cost of a grocery shop is going up week after week.

      Inflation might have gone down BUT that still hasn’t had any impact on the average consumer yet. Grocery prices etc are still on the rise. No sign of them coming down yet either. So the cost of living situation is still an issue.

      They were only helpful for a temporary time. What should have been done is to sort the issue of high prices. These handouts won’t and didn’t solve the issue.

      Thankfully the electricty prices came down and will continue to do so,to make these credits unnecessary

      this is basically the only actual benefit (outside of things that i have never really used like healthcare) i get from my tax money. That and the €1000 reduction in college fees. I am sure they will probably pull that too

      I was worried the government was going to keep high discretionary spending before the election. I should have known they’d cut it back after the vote.

      And they’re also ending RPZ. Gas how only a few weeks ago they were promising everyone this that and the other. In now again and I’m the mask slips.

      Well obviously they have to pump all that money to ESB networks. Who can’t be expected to maintain the infrastructure they  have a monopoly on, without passing on the cost to everyone else when stuff goes wrong
