Anything but take responsibility for housing your fucking population.
Hear, hear!
They keep promising action but never deliver maybe stop voting for FF/FG guys..
Ah yes, the solution to our housing crisis is…*checks notes*…government policy more friendly to vulture funds and foreign corporate landlords. Just what we need lads, keep it up.
Yeah more private investment is needed, more public investment is needed but public investment tends to be inefficient and wasteful.
The needs to be careful investigation as to the sources of demand for housing. Some may balk at that but the state cannot build houses to accommodate the rest of the world.
Dig up, stupid.
Well it’s not before it’s time.
The Irish people will get the government they voted for.
Can’t even blame the government at this point, they’ve showed their colours for years and people wanted more of it.
If only there was some money available for the Irish government to build housing.
Sadly we’re flat broke, and are unable to afford anything more ambitious than bailing out fraudulent failing banks.
Maybe copy Vienna? Or do something, anything, other than exactly what we’ve been doing for decades?
Spending money on mortgage relief and not construction and then pleading for private investment… If more money was the solution then all that Apple money could be used.
Right… so in the last few days:
– Floats removal of the energy credits
– Floats the ending of rent pressure zones
– Floats increasing privatisation of the housing crisis
Well done for voting for more of the same, I suppose.
The opposition lost the election. Get on with governing and making the decisions you think are right.
I thought that the British people were bonkers voting for brexit until knowing what we know the people of Ireland vote the same problem fcukers as the last time back in again!
Its for melbourne, but this site is really good. New Zealand have made some good progress through focusing on increasing supply through both public and private building.

Criticising any kind of investment in housing doesn’t make sense in a housing crisis.

No shame to say that when this has been the issue for many years !
Terrible government ,I think one of the most
Incompetent in Europe
How did that work out in the last 15 years?
All of this is incredibly… skin melting… for want of a better way of putting it. The government are talking about a desperate need to incentivize private investment, and to abolish the vanishingly few protections renters have… meanwhile, rents are at all time highs and we already directly subvent the landlord class to the tune of about half a billion euro a year in the form of HAP payments.
There is no private market in housing! No private market in rent! The entire market it grotesquely distorted by government interventions that seemed absolutely designed to drive both the cost of buying your own home, or even renting a home ever higher.
And we can think of nothing, literally nothing only doing more of the same.
Our elders that have theirs out voted the youth that didn’t vote in numbers, you reap what you sow.
Builders can’t afford to live and work in ireland, immigrate and lack of builders causes house prices to soarz more builders leave, vicious cycle, incentivise private investors that want profit on their investment on top of ridiculous cost to build can only make prices go higher, what is the thought process
