And yet the government offers landlords 6/7 times the standard rental rates to private companies like those managing the Avon in blessington to remove Irish and Ukrainian tenants, the sole aim of increased profits to house IPA migrants. While filling empty building is fine, forced evictions by the government is pretty sickening. I wonder how they would word this to appease their voters
Only €15,000? Honestly feels like not enough with the way some landlords manage their properties and treat renters.
So we’re supposed to believe the RTB suddenly grew balls and will start enforcing the rules around RPZs right as the Taoiseach starts signalling that they want to get rid of RPZs? Sure.

Our last landlord had increased the rent from like 850 for the previous tenant to 1500 for us in an RPZ, we only found out because the neighbours were sound. We brought it up with them and they went hostile, refused to elaborate or show the documents that would’ve allowed an increase, so we took them to the RTB over it (and because they were generally problematic, entering the house without a heads up or permission etc).
We ended up getting the rent put back to where was legally meant to be in the RPZ and the overpaid rent returned (about 4 grand). The house was a shit hole and they were just being cheeky, hoping to siphon an extra 7 grand per year off young people but they couldn’t even manage the bare minimum of upkeep or paperwork.
What bothered me most was the complaint of “we’re not professional landlords!” despite their family owning several properties and renting them out over a decade at that point. “Not professional” expecting to be let off from responsibilities they’d never allow from tenants.
TLDR: don’t let the fuckers away with it man. Like don’t cause problems, be polite, but if people arent offering the same basic respect you give and they have their hands in your pockets illegally, chase it up, put the fear into them that they have to follow the rules just as much as tenants do. It’s not money for nothing.
If Ireland is applying RPZ measures it needs a rent register. Any rental should have their monthly price available to the public to prevent price gouging.
Rent in RPZ’s over the last few years has increased at a much higher rate than the increases allowed so there must be a large cohort of landlords ignoring the rules.
I, for one, applaud this new anti-landlord Maoist crackdown from the People’s Republic of Ireland
