      “An immigration tribunal judge blocked his deportation to Zimbabwe by the Home Office because it would breach his rights under Article 3 of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) which prohibits torture, inhuman treatment and degrading punishment.

      Sarah Pinder, the judge, accepted his lawyers’ claims that, as an openly gay man who had been jailed for more than five years for child sex offences, he was likely to face “substantial hostility” from the Zimbabwean authorities.

      The man was also granted anonymity and known only as RC. He is autistic and deaf, which the court accepted meant he lacked the social skills that would enable him to “defuse” hostility against him.“

      The UK judicial system is weird. You’ll see someone sentenced to 3 years for a facebook post and the same judge will turn around and give no time served for possession of child pornography. They can’t even deport someone due to dislike of foreign chicken tendies. I’m beginning to think they have two tiers of justice.

      There are people protected under UN refugee convention. Meaning you can not do anything to them except accepting their stay in your country. In 2018 a Danish newspaper asked the Danish authorities about how many such persons lived in Denmark. 75 individuals convicted of “innocent” things like warcrimes, terror, murder, rape, arson, threat to national security. We are talking the shittiest disgusting human beings like taliban warriors from the previous time this group wrecked Afghanistan.

      One such person had remained in Denmark for22 years. Presumably he is still living here getting closer to 30 years of the state “tolerating” his existence.

      I know we like to be radical and ignore nuance on reddit, but I think it’s actually a good thing that we enforce a convention on human rights forbidding torture regardless of crimes, because there are good reasons human rights apply to all people with no exception.

      How come Judge Pinder gets the shit end of the stick in this Article? Upholding a previous ruling (or supporting circumstance, respectively) is hardly the same as being the first instance to rule on this.

      Having said that, Home office has a point. Shit’s ridiculous.

      Are we sure he actually did commit these crimes? There’s nothing about it in the article beyond a conviction in Zimbabwe and there’s a lot of cases where gay people get scapegoated as pedophiles or groomers when that isn’t the case, especially if he’s mentally disabled and unable to properly defend himself.
