      What the story doesn’t tell is that the nuclear power plants are up to 4 DECADES old and some of the older ones are at risk, with from what I last read, no future plan to renovate or make new ones to replace the oldest ones, so they could be in electricity trouble “soon”.
      Good news is that there’s a new moderne nuclear power plant that was connected in 2024, but still undergoing testing.

      Here’s an overview of Frances nuclear reactors. Think of the technology level in those years.

      * **1977-1979:** 8 reactors
      * **1980-1981:** 18 reactors
      * **1982-1983:** 7 reactors
      * **1984-1986:** 12 reactors
      * **1987-1988:** 6 reactors
      * **1990-1993:** 4 reactors
      * **1996-2000:** 2 reactors

      EDIT: Ouch, downvoted because I share some info – Maybe not a 100% up to date, but still relevant info. 😅

      now imagine a lot more solar, france is at a good location for a whole lot of solar on every roof – and there are a lot of nice places along the coast and plains for windpower

    3. I wonder how they are dealing with the waste now it cannot be dumped in Russia?

      We’re lucky to have the Alps helping us with hydropower.

      We can’t have any more dams that we currently have

      And now show us their bills for the upkeep for this mix of power plants.

      This is the part of the story a lot of people won’t hear or tell. Like something about 60 billions in debts only for the nuclear power plants.
