This is not sufficient deterrence. After a few elections the foreign policy of countries will change, Ukraine will be left alone again.

The Russians would look to do what the Serbs did. Rush the European peacekeepers, arrest them, and enact ethnic cleansing.Â
Any European force needs to be dug in with heavy weapons and ready to call on the full air power of European NATO states at the first sign of trouble.Â
That would keep Russia away. They aren’t scared of our comparatively small land forces. But they sure as hell are scared of our air forces. Â

Let’s get logistics and a strong supply chain of weapons and ammo in order before we talk about deploying troops that can’t defend themselves. This should’ve been done years ago but yeah..
“if the Russian and Ukrainian armies reduce their forces to a couple of thousand on each side” yeah… that will never happen. It equates to Ukraine practically surrendering and disbanding its armed forces (or moving all to western Ukraine?)
At this point, I suspect that diplomatic efforts are being maintained because Europe is civilised & the muppets on tour are taking the spotlight.
The idea that the legs of the radiant swan that is the EU are not paddling like fking crazy beneath the surface is ludicrous.
Yeah lets occupy the peacekeeping troops in Ukraine and then Putin can get his army on par again an wals al over the baltic states.
