Worth noting that this is an unsourced rumor at this point. FT, where it seems to originate, doesn’t even say they talked to officials that want to remain anonymous or cite any source for the claim, they only say [“European officials believe …”](https://www.ft.com/content/11f121f9-391c-4597-93f7-f12894e1b79d).
If he does actually agree to this, he should be impeached or 25thed immediately. I know he won’t be and that it’s wishful thinking for the Republicans in Congress to suddenly grow a spine and do their damn jobs, but it’s hard to understate how catastrophic a decision this would be for everyone involved except Putin.
If this turns out to be true, it also displays USA as some of the worst “ally” one could wish for. Baltics have always followed all the NATO requirements, the 2% GDP on defence from the very start (now, the same spending is higher than even that of the USA), have been on-board with the USA on its foreign policy and foreign missions for decades. Yet, all they get is hostility towards Europe, treacherous backstabbing and a few sugar-glazed words for consolation.
As such, it simply would not matter how pro-USA you are, you will be dumped overboard as soon as profitable. I’m sure Japan, Korea and Taiwan would be watching closely as to what kind of power they have behind them.
Correct me if i am wrong, but there are no permanent US troops in Baltics to begin with. So whom they are gona withdraw?
There are Europes NATO members + Canada.
US troops are mostly in Poland and Bulgaria, Hungary.

The USA is now a strategic adversary. An enemy of Europe no different to Russia. I welcome this alongside a full expulsion of American occupying forces from Europe. It will not be easy, but if the United States wants peace through strength, Europe will show them what strength means, hopefully with troop deployments to Greenland and deployment of nuclear weapons to Canada.
How many active duty US troops in the Baltics? Given the total numbers deployed in EU (mostly support in DE) I’d assume it’s only in the hundreds at most.
Why are people complaining? Every says USA should fuck off etc I think we should be happy they are doing this. Too much reliance on USA makes Europe look weak and pathetic.
This is history repeating itself again, US withdraws, ruzzia invades and fortifies while isolationist US says “not my problem” once ruzzia sees US is doing nothing it continues to occupy and invade more parts of Europe, US either has a forced change of leadership or an election and a sane person is president again, but still hesitates sending its troops to liberate europe, US is attacked by a ruzzian ally, and this forces US to liberate Europe and face the new axis powers, pure insanity.

There are other NATO / EU troops there in the Baltics. If the US pulls back, yet stays in a position to provide backup support, it would be consistent with the role the US would like to take in the EU, and continue the commitment to Article 5.

So when does Russia proper get attacked, like let’s assume the US does pull out of the Baltics, Russia invades, the rest of EU steps up, do you stop at the russian border, or immediatly start bombing the large Russian city’s , I mean russian can bomb Ukraine city’s, Ukraine is gimped on where they can use advanced weapons, assuming the EU defence pact is not bound by the same rules, how long before the nukes fly
The plan seems to be to bring the fascists into power in Western Europe, who would then align with the fascists in the US, while letting the Russian fascists to occupy Eastern Europe. Basically going back to the post-WWII world order except Europe is now divided between fascists.

This makes sense – the baltics are the only real choice for putin to harass and bully really. So trump wishing his boss an easier show of ‘force’ will abandon three nato countries to be harassed and possibly breached just to prove loyalty to his boss in Moscow.

Then why not vacate all other bases in Europe as well? What do the Americans still want here when they so clearly pursue only their own interests? It doesn’t seem to be about friendship anymore. After all, we don’t have any outposts in the U.S. either. So Europe should finally become truly sovereign.
