But this commissioning phase was always in the program, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone involved.
And I’m no doctor, so I’m not going to comment on CHIs reason for not transferring patients during the winter.
I remember when they first announced the children’s hospital.
I was still a child then.

Worth noting, hand over will be in June 2025. Commissioning and testing of equipment that the hospital will then bring in takes 6 months and most importantly hospitals are not opened in winter time, new extensions to hospitals new hospitals, nothing, is opened in winter time, why? Because that’s when you have the most sick people. True AF.
Wait until its handed over as “substantially completed” and the new owners find a list as long as me ma’s Christmas big shop to be fixed. I would say if they are saying 2026 we wont see it open until 2027 at least.

To be honest, I do catering in different hospitals through an agency, I’ve worked in a inpatient CAMHS unit and NCI up in tallaght, and they can’t find staff. I don’t know how they’re going to manage to staff this hospital once it’s built. Sure, we lost more nurses post covid because they all moved to Australia for better pay and working conditions. Not to mention they might have a better chance of finding housing abroad too.
Well my son is under the care of Crumlin children’s hospital and his consultant said they probably won’t have moved to the new hospital before my son moves from paediatrics to adult services. My son is 8.
When you let someone steal a billion they keep going for more. Shocker.
Non story, they’re handing over the hospital and there’s a massive commissioning phase of 6-9 months as planned no matter when the hospital building was finished

2016, planning permission granted, estimated price €650 million completion date 2020
2017, (one year later) the overall cost rose to 1.73 BILLION and it just keeps going
I mean if anyone’s gone through St James on the bus you can get a good look into it and it looks absolutely no where near finished on the inside. This isn’t a shock at all

Didn’t get the job unfortunately but they were pretty sure they’d be opening in June or July (and the new hire to work in the Crumlin hospital lab until it was time to move in). They’ve apparently got loads of new equipment sitting boxed up in storage in different hospitals just waiting to be moved to the new place and used
Honestly this may be a sunken fallacy. It might be quicker just to build a new children’s hospital closer to the centre of Ireland
This is not new information. We knew that CHI will take 6-9 months to commission their equipment and we knew that CHI will not open during winter flu surge months.
CHI keep telling the government that it will take 6-9 months to commission and the government keep repeating 6 months, misrepresenting CHI’s timeline
