Had one of those last year. I think they’re assuming more people speak Irish and translating by AI. ChatGPT can easily give you fairly passable Irish translations. Probably coming from some international scam factory.

Olivia from the RA?

Why is she claiming to be part of the RA?

It’s effectively gibberish with some coherent sequences of words thrown in.

For those wondering about the RA part, the English probably says “Olivia from the UK” (an Ríocht Aontaithe) which the machine translation abbreviates as “an RA”… human translators don’t use that abbreviation for obvious reasons…

First of all, no one in the RA is called Olivia.

I’ve had a couple of weird ones lately. “Dad, this is my new number. I’m struggling financially”. I have no children. Then a fantastic one that claimed to be a restaurant who to confirm my booking by ringing that number and giving them the 16 digit number on the back of my card. Given that the timestamp was 5 hours ahead and the number had a Pakistan international code, they are clearly a shabby outfit.

Brilliant, I’ve got “Is mise Livvy, the girl from the RA” to the tune of Kelly The Boy From Killane going through my head now
