We’d have to see the outcome of the German election first.

Why tf are the only people in the EU speaking any sense at all, always from Finland? You know what? I’m for cancelling the current EU president and letting the Finnish lead it for a decade. Might actually get something done for a change.

      I agree. 100%
      Im Australian.

Europe needs to present a totally united front and REJECT the rantings of Trump USA.

Trump should not and does not “own” Europe😡
Unfortunately European nations, you are going to need to step up and stand on your own two feet.

Put big money into NATO and accept little funding anymire from the USA.

First thing you MUST do, is win Ukraine back from Russia. Send in NATO troops and get Russia out of Ukraine. Then join Ukraine to EU.

The next 10 years? You need to put big money into yourselves.

But you also need to slow down & cut Islamic migration…before it ruins your nations. That is one thing VANCE was right about. If you continue to let it go unchecked? You will collapse your proud nations.

    5. We need to come with smart and viable solutions that would be finacially efficient and sustainable from the long-term perspective, rather than generic phrases about “more unity”, or “more money” because they will not lead to the expected result.

That fully applies also to European defense as well as support of Ukraine. The EU approach to solve everything by simply pouring more money leads only to lack of efficiency. For example, Ukraine is being given sophisticated and very expensive Western weapons but is not taught how to use them properly which leads to bitterness of the donnors for their wasting: [https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2025/02/16/nato-ukraine-soviet-battlefield-tactics-squandered-weapons/](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2025/02/16/nato-ukraine-soviet-battlefield-tactics-squandered-weapons/) Thus if EU wants to spend more tax payers resources, the least thing it can do is to be very careful about their spending.

    6. She has been saying this non-stop for years now. Finally, it turns out that she was always a pioneer on this front and ahead of her time.

She’s right. Unfortunately at least half of Europe is going back to nationalism in this very moment. Worst time to do so, but finally nationalists are idiots.

Terrible picture + “Finland’s former leader makes the case for **stumping up tens of billions more** for Ukraine”

The Economist looks good comparing to The Telegraph or the Daily Mail but all Anglo Media is anti-european and will always be.

    9. Our federatoin is run by influencers that just shout at each other that STUFF NEEDS TO BE DONE, while forgetting that they’re the ones supposed to be doing the stuff.

Good to have all European countries pulling the same way and not just the EU.

I mean all countries, no matter if you are a big country or a microstate inside Italy.

What is happening was obvious a long time ago. Why are we so late to react? Why do we react incrementally? If we understand what is going to happen in one month, one year, or ten years, why not do what’s necessary NOW? European leaders are constantly reacting too late, putting us in vulnerable and humiliating situations where we have very little leverage. Do what’s necessary NOW. Assert yourselves NOW.

**Step 1:** To match U.S. defense spending adjusted for purchasing power parity (PPP), European countries must increase their collective defense budgets by approximately $175 billion to $259 billion, resulting in a total annual expenditure of between $632 billion and $716 billion. This must be resolved IMMEDIATELY.

**Step 2:** Prepare an aid package that compensates for a potential U.S. withdrawal of support, and more. This would undermine both the U.S. and Russia’s current exploitation of Ukraine and force them to invite Europe to the negotiating table.

**Step 3:** Begin developing an independent EU defense.

**Step 4:** Consider pivoting trade and other strategic alliances toward China, the U.S.’s main adversary. The EU can act as a kingmaker between the U.S. and China, whichever side the EU chooses will dominate the world.

Europe is strong, but that´s not the perception in Europe or around the world. The reason for this is because of our actions and our mentality. Remember, having options means having leverage. Understand your strengths, develop them, and assert yourself. Project that power.

Says a 35 something former politician without any real power nowadays.

      *Neeeeext…*

    14. Foresstov on

This sub is such a circle jerk I don’t think I can take it anymore. Every single politician in the EU has been saying the exact same thing (although some made an effort to paraphrase it) since Russia invaded in 2022. Every government head, every parliament member, everyone who can get media’s attention for 3 minutes had already said it and yet we still are where we are

“Europe needs to be self sufficient”, “Europe needs to become independent of the USA”, “Europe must unite” blah blah blah and yet we still are where we are, where those are Americans themselves who have to cut us off because nobody in Europe has the guts to finally do something instead of repeating the same things over and over again

And all these posts about the same words being said by all these different politicians have thousands of up votes and all the comments can be summarised into

“I’m from EU and I agree”

“I’m from USA and I agree. We’re dumb, we’re sorry, America is a facist empire of evil and it has fallen”

“I’m from a completely different place on the other part of the world and have never even set a foot in Europe but I 1000000000000000% agree”

And then there’s a bunch of deleted comments, most likely from Russian bots

    16. greppoboy on

Nope, too late, russia dissinformation and corruption has made it so some core eu countries are run by eurosceptics, like my own, now its just time to see who will rule over us, usa or russia, we had our time to shine, we wasted it sitting on the usa shoulders, sleeping, and we woke up too late, worst, we have not yet woken up

    17. GullibleAntelope on

Less division for Europe. Yes, good idea. And regarding Ukraine, Europeans nations have the option of trying to sideline Trump’s overtures to Russia by ramping up military support to Zelensky. The U.S. has given Urkaine some $60 billion in weapons and other support since the start of the war. Now apparently U.S. funding is slowing.

European nations have provided even more funds to Ukraine, but thus far the Russians are advancing. It will take a big European effort. Not that many options regarding Ukraine, if Europe wants to blunt Trump’s approach.

    18. Karlinel-my-beloved on

Indeed it is. Show our enemies we and our allies are not for sale. We do not bow!

lol. What strength. Your strength has always been that you have the giant called the US at your back. Europe is nothing a collection of dwarves masquerading as a “global power”.
