Question from an American – how are Trump’s recent comments affecting European politics?

When Trump picked a fight with Canada a few weeks ago, the Canadian Conservative Party plummeted in the polls, and the Conservative Party leader was forced get up and say anti-Trump things in order to stop the bleeding. I am curious if anything similar is happening in Europe now? Are there far-right or far-left parties/voters that were previously pro-Russia but are now coming around to pro-European positions as a result of Trump’s comments?

Wrong narrative to “responds to Trump”. It should be “responds to the future”. Trump is temporary, the future isn’t.

I kinda hope that the Trump hate will convert some AfD votes into EU friendly votes. We need the EU now more than ever. AfD is not for EU.

      >Europe’s biggest economy is the 27-nation European Union’s most populous nation

Off-topic but I had a stroke reading that lol

First time German voter living abroad! Voted SPD and got my siblings to vote as well! (+4) 🙂

A vote for the AfD is a vote for Trump and his boss Putin.

Vote for Germany, not for cheap dictators.

Observing how Trump has been governing the USA to align with Putin, I find it hard to believe that Russia did not interfere in the latest USA elections. I guess that Germany should be another country Russia would like to control. Don’t give them this joy, fellow Germans.

Trump shot himself in the foot going dictator day one. Cause now the rest of the world sees exactly what the right leaning parties will do when in charge nowadays.

Here is an idea, how instead you vote for a government that will shape Europe’s response to Putin?

And that will shape their response to the murders of their own citizens.

Can anybody from Germany ELI5 how Merz as chancellor would be different from Scholz as chancellor? What are their stances on the top issues facing Germany? Thanks!

Our future chancellor is a former black rock employe. He will do nothing against the interests of US billionaires

Germany has been such a let down. For seven years they let Ukraine be occupied while they negotiated energy deals with Putin.

I don’t know what Germany’s problem is but something needs to change…

I sure hope this will be a good response. Scholz is not known for those but we have what we have at the moment.

In my company in Bavaria there s couple pretty strong AfD guys saying: “ Sei schlau, wähl Blau “ meaning be smart, vote blue. It s so funny how dumb people are. I am myself slightly right of centre but AfD is just so disgusting.
