Sound like the crowd to help alright
Someone get the smelling salts for Paul Murphy
Sounds like a terrible time to engage the Americans for help
ISG run the United Nations Peacekeeping Operations Contingent Commanders course, so presumably the DF are familiar with their work.
I’m not sure if we should be basing our military development on a force structure that spent 20 years and trillions of dollars to be completely ineffective in the given mission in TWO theatres.
I wonder will a US company advise us to buy a load of US weapons.
We’ll be toppling central American governments in no time!
The problem here is timing.
The Force Design unit in the Army has been working for about a year, and the civil servants in the DoD have been writing the legislation to change the high level command structure of the DF.
So why now?
If you don’t like the answers you’re getting in-house, hire a consultant, set narrow parameters, and get the answer you wanted to get.
Brought to you by Micheál “Never be a military capable nation” Martin.
How much will this go over budget by?
Good!
They should be freed up fairly soon to help out in fairness
Mac tíre in éadaí mac tíre.
Seriously? This type of consultancy is widespread in our fellow EU member states, along with the likes of Norway, Ukraine and the UK.
The last couple of weeks have shown us that the United States are on the road to oligarchy, and while we absolutely need a dramatic overhaul of our defence forces, we need it *because* Trump and Putin will be looking at invading us.
Ffs.. now is not the time to pay the americans to help us.. could we have not looked towards europe?
Ain’t no messing with us now.
Might be controversial but this sounds like a good step? I’m aware there’s been steps taken but the Defence forces need reforming and modernising. Can’t do that in a vacuum without expert advice.
Though if we are purchasing new ships and aircraft like the article suggests, I’d much prefer we shop European than Yank.
crack pipe being passed around the decision makers…..’tell ya wha will be a laugh’
How stupid are we exactly. The US has made its position clear – Russia and Israel can kill whoever they want and conquer as much territory as they want – this is is completely against everything we stand for.
The USA have sold Europe down the river, there is no two ways about it. They cannot be trusted, it’s undeniable.
This idea of, if we stay quiet and say nothing, maybe Trump will leave us alone, is a fantasy.
We need to work with the EU and cut the USA out. They are not our allies anymore.
It won’t be long before Trump starts trying to claim us a new US state or “beloved territory”, he will tell everyone he is saving Ireland from wokeism or some other rubbish. Wake the fuck up Ireland.
Europe is our home, we need to stand against facism or we will lose our god damn soul.
We can never ever claim the moral high ground if we don’t stand against the rise of facism here and now.
In fairness, this decision was likely made in 2024 before the US went completely off the rails. Trump’s only in **4 weeks** and the US is effectively now a rogue state owned by X and the Kremlin.
We definitely should have gone for EU consultancy on this, and getting out of it might not be particularly easy at this point either. Hindsight’s great though – I don’t think anyone expected quite this level of insanity.
Half the continent and the UK is stuck in similar arrangements and far worse ones, particularly the extremely expensive F-35 jet fighter programmes, which Trump could for example block US companies from supporting with parts or it’s theorised that they might even be able to remotely brick them with the firmware.
Whole thing is a complete mess! Trump’s effectively a Kremlin and US-based oligarch asset.
At this rate the agency we’re working with on this might even be closed down under some DOGE programme aimed at firing anyone they don’t like.
So we raising taxes to fund the adoption of the military industrial complex or cutting from existing services?
